Hi Everyone! (Привет всем!)

Our church life:

• Tonight: Free theological lessons/discussion (in Russian) at 7:30 pm at our place on 100 Washington St in Brighton, MA (with Tea!). We live in #7. All are welcome and bring friends! We are studying the life and teachings of Jesus from His primary source documents (Gospel according to Matthew). Today we’ll look at all the Old Testament prophecy predicting “The King.”
• This Friday: Introduction to the biography of Jesus as recorded by John. We’re going to learn about John. Who is he, and why should I believe his testimony about Jesus? We’re meeting at the church (557 Cambridge St.) at 7:30. Come hang out and learn about Jesus, who also speaks English.
• This Sunday: The sermon will cover Philippians 3:1-11. The question we’ll be dealing with is: what is most valuable to you in life, and what are you willing to forsake/give up, in order to get it? Also, what does it mean to “know God.” Can we, as finite beings, ever really “know” the infinite God? Paul seems to think so (cf. 3:10). Hmm… Come and let us think together! The service begins at 5:15pm.

• Tonight: Free theological lessons/discussions (in Russian) at 7pm at our place on 100 Washington St in Brighton, MA (with Tea!). We live in #7. All are welcome and bring friends! We are studying the life and teachings of Jesus from His primary source documents (Gospel according to Matthew). I have begun to advertise these meetings with the attached document (see attached). If you know a great place to put it up, feel free to print it out and do it for the glory of Jesus.
• This Friday: we are kicking off our English Bible studies. We’re meeting at the church (557 Cambridge St.) at 7:30. Come hang out and learn about Jesus, who also speaks English. By the way, we need a catchy name for the Friday night meetings. For instance, in DC we called it “Крепость,” which worked really well. Any ideas?

• This Sunday: the sermon will be about “Heroes.” In preparation for the sermon, think about the heroes in your life, whom you’ve worked hard (or not so hard) to emulate. Paul gives two heroes, whom we should honor, in Timothy and Epaphroditus (Phil. 2:19-30). However, we know very little about them! What’s up with that?!?!  Also, I’m going to focus on Paul’s phrase in 2:27 “lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow“…. implying that Paul was burdened with at least a trace of sorrow, if not more. But wait, isn’t Philippians saturated with Joy?! Isn’t Paul saying how joyful he is every two seconds? Well, how does Paul have joy in the midst of sorrow? How do I have joy in the midst of sorrow? Think about it, and come Sunday to think together! The service begins at 5:15pm.

Hello Everyone! Just a few quick announcements about what is happening this week in our church life:

• Bible study tonight (in Russian) at 7pm at our place on 100 Washington St in Brighton, MA. We live in #7. All are welcome and bring friends! We will begin studying the life and teachings of Jesus from the Gospel according to Matthew.

• This Saturday, we are having our regular English Bible study but in a different place. Anna and George were kind enough to invite us to their place for a cook out. They live at 79 East Ridge Rd in Merrimack NH (03054). We are meeting there at 6:30pm. Please let me know if you would like to go but do not have a ride (we have room in our car for 2). We’ll have yummy burgers and continue our nourishing study in Acts. Please bring some barbecue “fixins,” i.e. soda, chips, dessert, etc.

• This Sunday, the sermon will be about Salvation, and more specifically – “Sanctification.” We’ll be studying Philippians 2:12-18 and focusing on the sometimes difficult to understand phrase “Work your salvation with fear and trembling.” Work out my salvation? What?!?!  I thought Jesus has already worked it out!?! Hmm…. Please read the passage several times and be prepared to think together!

Dear Beloved Friends,

I recently sent this email to those who have expressed interest in working, in some capacity, for Jesus in Boston (or I’m just really sure you will). My name is Jan Vezikov and I love Jesus, His Word, and the lost. God has blessed me with Himself as a treasure, a sweetheart for a wife, and cutie baby for a daughter. Jesus loved me and gave himself for me (Gal. 2:20); in response I love him and give myself to him. Lord willing, I will graduate from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary on May 22, 2009, with an MDiv in Advanced Biblical Studies. After the ceremony, we will load our moving truck and head north. We are hoping to be living in Boston by the 1^st of July.

Our dream is to plant a church in the heart of Boston, which God will use to melt the spiritually icy Northeast. I’m get a little tired of the look I get every time I tell someone I’m moving to Boston to plant a church. They look at me as if I just got off the mini school bus—a mixture of sympathy with mockery. I’m sure it’s a look similar to the one a young man named David received when he told everyone he was going out to pick a fight with Goliath, with nothing but a few rocks and a slingshot, to boot. Well, in response to the doubters (i.e. haters), I respond with the words of David, “For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you [Boston] into our hand” (1 Sam. 17:47).  Currently, the most famous piece of wood in Boston is the baseball bat and the most famous savior is David Ortiz. There is something terribly wrong with this (though we do like Ortiz). Would you pray with me that the Cross will become more precious than the bat and the Savior more exalted than the Sox?

The intention is to begin ministering to the Russian community. However, the Lord has sent us to this country to do more than bless ourselves; we are to be a blessing. There are thousands of Russian speakers in the Boston area; there are several million English speakers.

How can you get involved?

1. Move to Boston.
2. Prepare to come to Boston very often.
3. Prepare to give money for this ministry. Boston is expensive, but God has made you rich.
4. Pray really hard.  These are our current prayer requests:
   • Pray the following with me:

   “God, you are great and worthy to be glorified. Your plan of salvation through Jesus Christ is staggering. However, the people in Boston don’t know this. They don’t know you. Actually, they hate you. How can you let this be? Please regenerate their hearts and draw them to yourself. Transform Boston by your Grace, and please let us tag along for the ride.”

   • Pray for the Lord to send us an apartment in a strategic location, at an affordable price.
   • Pray for the Lord to gather a team of His choice servants to minister courageously on the front lines of one of the hardest cities in the world.
   • Finally, please mark your calendars. I have reserved the retreat center in Ashford, CT for August 21, and 22. You are invited to this retreat if you are interested in participating in this ministry in Boston (and tell anyone you think might be interested). This will be a wonderful weekend of spiritual renewal, strategic planning, and counting costs. Speaking of which, the cost for the retreat is $84 per person, food included. Я пишу вам, потому что когда-то, вы проявили какой-то интерес работать для Иисуса в Бостоне (или я уверен, что проявите).  Меня зовут Ян Везиков и я люблю Иисуса, Его Слово, и не познавших Бога. Бог обогатил меня Собой, возлюбленной женой Татьяной, и доченькой Софией («Бутузик»). Иисус возлюбил меня и предал Себя за меня (Гал. 2:20); в ответ, я люблю Его и отдаю себя Ему. Если даст Бог, я заканчиваю семинарию 22 мая 2009. После выпускного, мы загружаем грузовик и отправляемся на север.

Мы намереваемся начать служение в центре Бостона, которое Бог использует, чтобы растопить духовное обледенение Новой Англии. Я не много устал от взглядов, которые я вижу каждый раз когда говорю кому-то, что я переезжаю в Бостон  начинать церковь. Они смотрят на меня, как будто я мальчик «Незнайка»—смесь жалости с насмешкой. 1. Переезжайте в Бостон.
2. Готовьтесь приезжать в Бостон очень часто, для того чтобы знакомиться с неверующим и оказать им любовь Христа.
3. Стать финансовым партнером. Бостон дорогой город, но Бог вас обогатил.
4. Молитесь сердечно и горячо. Вот наши текущие молитвенные просьбы:
   • Молитесь следующей молитвой со мной: «Бог, Ты великий и достоин прославления. Твой план спасения через Иисуса Христа потрясающий! Однако, люди в Бостоне не знают этого. Они не знают Тебя. Кроме того, они ненавидят Тебя. Как это так? Пожалуйста, возроди многие сердца и приводи людей к познанию Тебя. Преобрази Бостон Своей Благодатью, и пожалуйста позволь нам хоть как-то поучаствовать.»
   • Молитесь, чтобы Бог послал нам квартиру в ключевом месте по доступной цене.
   • Молитесь, чтобы Бог собрал команду храбрых воинов, готовых отважно сражаться на фронте одного из самых духовно мёртвых городов в мире.

Джон Стотт однажды высказал мысль, которая помогает мне выразить, почему нужно переезжать в Бостон и знакомить людей с Господом (и «посадить» Церковь Благодать):

«Главным побуждением к миссионерскому служению должно быть не повиновение Великому поручению (несмотря на всю его важность), не любовь к погибающим грешникам (хотя это очень серьезный стимулирующий фактор, особенно если подумать о гневе Божьем…), а огромное желание—страстное и всепоглощающее—увидеть славу Иисуса Христа… Мы должны «ревновать» о Его славном имени – печалиться, если его не знают, страдать, если им пренебрегают, негодовать, если его поносят. И во всякое время стремится и желать, чтобы имя это почитали достойно».

Кто мы?

Мы последователи Иисуса Христа, радикально изменены и спасены через Его благодать и любовь. В ответ на Его великую любовь к нам, мы теперь живем жизнью любви к Богу и ближнему человеку.

Наша мечта:

Мы хотим более искренне следовать за Иисусом и знакомить других людей с Ним. В будущем, мы желаем собрать всех любителей Иисуса в Бостоне в одну церковь – «Церковь Благодать, г. Бостон».

Почему мы хотим трудиться для Иисуса в Бостоне?

1. Мы уверены, что христианская вера является истиной.

2. Мы уверены, что самый великий подвиг любви, который мы можем оказать другим людям, следующий: убедить их в этой истине (словами и жизнью), в которой есть радость и мир и любовь–несравнимые в этом мире, и бесконечные и непостижимые в следующем.

3. Мы уверены, что честное рассуждение вместе с любовью (и конечно, с Божьей благодатью) смогут привести любого непредубежденного человека к этим заключениям, но самое главное к Иисусу Христу.

Если вы уже любите Иисуса всем сердцем и ближнего как самого себя (или по крайне мере к этому стремитесь), и если вас Бог побуждает трудиться для Него в Бостоне, пожалуйста, напишите мне:

John 1:14-18
